In 2016 we had a conversation with our Puketapu community around these three questions:
From this conversation we built on the existing vision to make it: To Empower All People to be Healthy Lifelong Learners.
This also was the key hui that allowed us to review our School Values of Manaakitia - Respect, Whakatutuki - Achievement and Whakamanatia - Pride and from that hui and korero with students we now have Kia Kaha - Do your best, Kia Māia - Be courageous and Kia Manawanui - Have a heart.
Our next step as a school is to come up a school curriculum that has meaning for students, it connects with their wider lives, and it engages the support of their families, whānau, and communities. We have asked many people what a curriculum is, and some of the answers have included ‘a learning programme’, ‘a series of courses for students to learn’ but the meaning we have for a school curriculum is:
"A curriculum is what our kids experience while at Puketapu."
To come up with this curriculum we need our community's voice, whakaaro, ideas.
On Thursday 28 June we held another community conversation around designing our school curriculum for the future.
For anyone who was not able to come along on the day, they can still have their say through our online form: Community Korero.
We want all our school whanau to get involved, to have their say and help shape our school.
